Choosing a Bridesmaid Dress or Dresses

When it comes to dresses for the bride's wedding party, there are several things to consider. Usually the maid of honor dresses in one of the primary colors and is set apart from the bridesmaids. There have been weddings where all the dresses were exactly the same and same color. There are also weddings where each bridesmaid dress was a different color. It is the bride's decision as to how she wants to dress her bridesmaid.

Bridesmaid dresses come in many different lengths, styles and colors. They are backless, strapless, off the shoulder, mini, formals, average length, ¾ lengths or ankle lengths. Choosing the style of the dress is more important than choosing a color to start. The style you choose should compliment your wedding theme. If you are having a very formal wedding or a black & white wedding, then this is a no brainer. The entire bridal party wears the same, sleek style, maybe over one shoulder and all of them are black. You should have it so lucky. Like most brides, you have dreamed of your colors for your wedding for years, and you want your bridesmaids to wear one of those colors. Again, before you start choosing the color, decide on the style.

The style of your bridesmaid dresses should compliment your wedding. Some weddings where there are two or more colors have the maid of honor in the primary color, and the bridesmaids dressed in the second color. Also, in these types of wedding, there is usually a groomsman for each bridesmaid. In this instance, it is not uncommon for the bridesmaids' dresses and the cummerbund or tie of the groomsmen to match. It makes for a particularly wonderful splash of color and makes for an awesome picture as well.

The season of year may also dictate to the style of the dress and the color as well. It may be difficult in the middle of winter to find pastel yellow dresses in enough styles and sizes; depending on the number of bridesmaids you will have attending. One of thing you might want to consider when choosing the style is the body shape of your bridesmaids. Some may look good in straight A-line type dresses, while others may look better in an empire waist gown.

It is also a good idea to try to have everyone available at the same time for choosing and picking out the dresses in the appropriate colors in case alterations are needed.
